Privacy Policy
The short version. CNTRL has no accounts, no sign-up and no servers of its own. The app does not send your data anywhere. Your Screen Time data is handled by Apple on your phone. Purchases go through Apple. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking. If you join the waitlist or email us, we use your email address only for that.
1. Who we are
CNTRL is published by Shiran Athapaththu, an individual developer based in Sri Lanka, who publishes the app under the name CNTRL (“we” or “us”). Contact: support@getcntrl.app.
2. Screen Time data
CNTRL works through Apple’s Screen Time frameworks (FamilyControls, ManagedSettings and DeviceActivity). When you grant Screen Time permission, Apple’s system, not CNTRL, monitors app usage and enforces the limits you set. The apps and categories you choose are stored by iOS as tokens that CNTRL cannot read as app names. Usage totals are worked out on your phone and shown to you inside the app.
CNTRL does not send any of this to us or to anyone else. We have no way to see which apps you use or for how long.
3. What CNTRL stores on your phone
To work, CNTRL keeps a database on your phone with your wake and sleep schedule, your App Plans and their limits, your Deep Work sessions (start time, length, Focus Score), your Wake-Up and Wind Down settings, and numbers worked out from these, such as Time Reclaimed. It stays in the app’s private storage and in the shared space used by CNTRL’s own widgets and extensions.
CNTRL does not sync this data through iCloud or to your other devices. It is included in your iPhone backup if your own backup settings include app data. Apple controls those backups.
Reminders, such as Wake-Up and Wind Down notifications, are scheduled on your phone. CNTRL uses no push server.
In Settings, Deactivate CNTRL removes everything CNTRL stores on your iPhone and turns off its Screen Time access. Deleting the app also deletes it.
4. Face ID and passcode
When you turn CNTRL off in its settings, iOS may ask for Face ID or your passcode. iOS does that check. CNTRL never receives your face data or your passcode.
5. Purchases
Subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. CNTRL checks with Apple, on your phone, which subscription is active. We never see your payment details. Apple’s handling of purchase data is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy.
6. Planned social features
Pro+ Social (friend circles, leaderboards and sharing) is planned but is not part of CNTRL at launch. If we add it, it will need some information to be shared between you and the friends you choose. We will update this policy before that happens, and nothing will be shared unless you turn it on.
7. Links that leave the app
The feature request link in CNTRL’s settings opens a Google Form in your browser. Anything you type there is collected by Google Forms and shared with us so we can read your request. Apple subscription links open Apple’s own pages.
8. This website and the waitlist
This website is a static site. It does not set tracking cookies and does not use analytics. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which may log your IP address as part of serving the files.
When you join the waitlist, we collect your email address. We use it only to tell you about CNTRL’s launch and product updates. It is stored and sent by our email provider, Kit (kit.com). We send one email first asking you to confirm, so no one can add your address without you. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or ask us to delete your address by writing to support@getcntrl.app.
9. Email
If you contact us, we keep your message and address for as long as needed to help you and to keep a record of the conversation. Writing to us does not add you to the waitlist.
10. Children
CNTRL is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Your rights
Because we hold no data about you on any server, most requests (access, correction, deletion) are handled by using the app itself or deleting it. For anything about your emails with us or the waitlist, write to us and we will act within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have rights under GDPR, the UK GDPR or similar laws, including the right to complain to a data protection authority.
12. Changes
We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date. Important changes will also be announced inside the app.
